Vasundhara Shankari Sellamuthu, A House for Mr Biswas, works on paper and trellis, 2019
These paint studies are on pages photocopied from the book A House for Mr Biswas by VS Naipaul. Treating the text as ground, I isolate phrases that relate to key stages and textures in the protagonists life. Through the tragicomedy of Mr Biswas’ narrative, I identify particularities that relate to my own upbringing and desire for autonomy.
